Colours and Me

Phrase:

If you think about it colours have a lot to do with your mood. You would feel a lot differently if you were locked up in a red room instead of a green one. There are colours that are pleasing to the eye and some that aren't. Researches prove that colours have an impact on our choices. Here are some colours, their significance and my thoughts about them.

Blue
Blue is the overwhelming 'favourite colour'. It is seen as trustworthy, dependable and committed. This colour invokes rest and produces chemicals that are calming.
Fun Facts:
Owls are the only birds that can see blue.
Mosquitoes are attracted to the colour blue, twice as much as any other colour.
Phrase:
Once in a blue moon: According to the Oxford Dictionary 'blue moon" refers to an absurdity. It happens only rarely, when small particles in the atmosphere scatter more red light than blue blah blah blah.
Me:
Blue is my favourite colour of all [and there are quite a few of those]. I just love blue because it's calming and pleasing to look at. Turquoise is my favourite shade of blue because it remind me of beaches and surf.
Favourite blue thing:
Turquoise nail enamel and a baby blue hair clip.

Purple
With a sense of mystic and royalty, purple is a colour often well liked by very creative or eccentric types and is the favourite colour of adolescent girls [ that is very much true because purple was my #1 colour for a long time].
Fun Facts:
Purple represents the planet Jupiter.
During the silver age of comic books, those with a purple cover sold better.
Phrase:
Lay it out in lavender: very cool, relaxed and in control.
Me:
As I mentioned before purple was my favourite colour in a certain stage. I first started liking it while I was reading Abby Hayes, who loved everything purple and even painted her room completely purple. I like purple because it's a very rich colour and catches my eye. Also grapes are purple and Natasha and me just LOVE the Mentos grape flavour. Rather than liking the colour purple I like wear purple - I have got a lot of this colour in my wardrobe.
Favourite purple thing:
Loads of purple clothes and a deep purple bottle.

Green
Green is second to blue as favourite colour. Green is a persuasive colour and is an ideal backdrop in interior designing because we're so used to seeing it everywhere. Green is considered the colour of ecology and peace. It relaxes mentally as well as physically.
Fun Facts:
The colour green signifies mystical or magical properties in the stories of King Author.
Green is the colour of Greek fire [according to Percy Jackson, anyway].
Phrase:
Turning green with envy: Green with envy is a termed used for jealousy. Envy being one of the deadly sins, there is a lot written about it.
Me:
I'm not a big fan of green. I know it's all nature-y and all but whatever. But then there was this colour in Faber-Castle called ..well I don't remember what it's called but that's okay because Paushi and I gave it a new name - Yummy Green. It was thing kind of yellow green like a green apple and we liked it so much because it went so well with the other colours we liked - purple, blue, orange.
Favourite green thing:
Green Apple scented Suave detangler.

Yellow
Yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment and happiness. Shades of golden yellow carry the promise of a positive future. It also encourages communication and activates memory.
Fun Facts:
The comic book character Green Lantern was afraid of the colour yellow.
75% of the pencils sold in the US are painted yellow.
Phrase:
The Yellow Journalism Wars: Irresponsible, exaggerated, lurid and even slanderous reporting. It stems from the 1880s when two newspapers started competing with each other which led to false facts being written.
Me:
I like yellow because it is a bright and energetic colour. I own really less yellow because it's not that much a favourite. I like to draw and paint with yellow because...I just do. There's not much I can write about this colour, though.
Favourite yellow thing:
Yellow curtains and yellow tank top.

Pink
Bright pink are youthful, fun and exciting while vibrant pinks have the same high energy as reds. When giving or receiving flowers, pink blossoms are the favourite.
Fun Facts:
Since the colour pink is said to have a tranquilizing effect, sport's teams sometimes use pink to paint the locker room used by the opposing teams.
Pastries taste better when they come out of pink boxes or when served on pink plates.
Phrase:
Being in the pink: in good heath.
Me:
For the first 6-7 years of my life, pink was my absolute favourite colour. I would buy maximum things possible in this colour. Pink is not so much a favourite but I do like hot pink. I like really soft pink nail enamel but can't seem to find any. I even named a stray dog 'Pinky' and then found out it was a boy [the dog still comes to me when I call out his name. Hopefully that means he's not offended at my naming skills]. Pink the least frequent colour in my room and wardrobe.
Favourite pink thing:
Hot pink converse.

Red
Red has more personal associations than any other colour. Red is inherently exciting and the amount of red is directly related to the level of energy perceived. Red attracts attention and increases enthusiasm.
Fun Facts:
Red is the first colour you lose sight of at twilight.
Bees can't see the colour red but they can see other bright colours.
 Phrase:
Red letter day: If someones tell you that today is a red letter day, they means it's a day of importance. But why 'red letter' day? It dates back to 1385 when monasteries were in charge of producing calendars. They would use black ink for most of the calendar but used red ink to mark important days such as religious occasions or holidays.
Me:
Frankly speaking, I don't like red. Because it makes me angry. Even as I'm writing this I'm feeling this tiny storm at the pit of my stomach which I've figured out, is rage. The only reason I own anything red wardrobe is because I need a change of colour in it. Red has never remotely been my favourite colour. I usually stay away from one of my rooms because the windows have red curtains.
Favourite red thing:
Red hoodie.

Black
Black is authoritative and powerful; because black can evoke emotions, too much can be overwhelming. Black represents a lack of colour, void, emptiness. It is a classic colour of clothing probably because it makes the wearer appear thinner and more sophisticated.
black-and-white-photographyFun Facts:
Black implies weight- people think a black box weighs more than white one.
One old wives' tale claims that if a woman is buried wearing the colour black, she'll come back to haunt the family.
Black sheep: A bad character in an otherwise respectable group.
Me:
I think black is a neutral colour. I don't completely love or hate black. But there are certain things that only look good in black like computers, laptops, cellphones. So it's a classic colour and it goes with everything. No one doen't not have black in their wardrobe. Black doesn't have a negative effect on me, it just reminds me of darkness, mystery and classiness. It's amazing what this colour does.
Favourite black thing:
Black converse, D&G t-shirt, Nike bag, earrings.

Books I Really Loved
I've read a lot of books but only some of them have me engrossed in it, never wanting to put the book down. I have twenty-five Nancy Drew books but they don't come in my list. Why? Because I read Nancy Drew because  it's light, fun to read and I like mysteries but I don't think it deserves to come in the list because for me it's just to pass time, not like reading worthy literature. So here's my list:

1. Chasing Redbird by Sharon Creech
Buy Chasing RedbirdI don't think anyone's heard much of this author and even I just picked up the book without much thought. That was probably the best thing I ever did because this book,I thought, is beautiful.
13-year old Zinnia Taylor lives on a farm in Baybanks, Kentucky with a slew of brothers and sisters. One summer she find a long-forgotten overgrown trail in the woods which she becomes determined to clear. Along the way she unravels dark secrets about her aunt's life and her own.
This is a very deep book and it makes you think a lot. If you like to read, then you must read this.

2. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
Front CoverPeople may think that Percy Jackson is much like Harry Potter but, no, it isn't. I'm a big Harry Potter hater and I was under the same impression that PJ was like that. My friend was trying to get me to read Percy Jackson and I was really reluctant. In the end, however, I finally bought The Lightning Thief and halfway through, I got bored. Then I started reading again and was lost in it. So I read all the books and now I'm a huge Percy Jackson fan. There's a lot fighting monsters etc. but it has the right amount of humour and normalness [I just made that word]. Even if you read Harry Potter, you will enjoy Percy Jackson.

3. Sammy Keyes by Wendelin Van Draanen
Buy Sammy Keyes And The Curse Of Moustache MarySammy Keyes is an average unpopular junior high student. Her best friend claims that trouble seems to find Sammy. And Sammy always sorts out the trouble. The best thing is, Sammy doesn't claim she's a amateur detective the way Nancy Drew does. She just think she's at the wrong place at the wrong time. Sammy is super smart in solving mysteries. And, ohhh, those mysteries! They're probably the best thought out plots ever because each mystery is so unique. Sammy waves at a thief in a hotel, Sammy is the main suspect when jewelery disappears from a church, Sammy witnesses a man in skeleton clothes stealing silver, Sammy fights an art thief, Sammy's float in Chrismastime is sabotaged, Sammy is in possesion of another girl's baby! How can you not read these books?

4. Ally's World by Karen McCombie
Ally's World is big series of books about Ally and her nutty family. Since there are so many books I can't really give a summary so I'm just copy-pasting Karen's.
A guided tour of Allys WorldAlly Love is just one member of a borderline fruitcake family. Apart from her laid-back dad, she shares her gently falling-down house with sisters Linnhe (uptight) and Rowan (airhead), kid brother Tor (strangely silent) and a menagerie of pets (all slightly wonky). Then there're her best mates Sandie and Billy, who're both brilliant but who don't tend to speak to each other much. Oops. Maybe the only one who could make sense of Ally's World is Mum, but she doesn't happen to be around. Whatever, there's always something going on in Ally's World...
They are fun and light books and an average girl can really relate to Ally's problems. Karen's style of writing is very humorous and that keeps you interested.

5.Driftwood by Cathy Cassidy
Hannah and Joey have been best friend forever. Joey's parents love rescuing things and making use of them. Then Joey's foster brother, Paul moves in. At first it's great but then things go wrong- Paul is being bullied, subtly at first but then it gets dangerous. Hannah doesn't know how to help and Paul doesn't want to be helped- but with help he can find a way to rescue himself.
Another thought-stirring and emotional book.

Looking out windows is one of those amazing things  that makes you lose track of time. From my window I can see trees bushes and flowers below and the calm, blue water in the pool. It's like I'm in a trance, thinking of all the wonderful things in nature and utterly, completely awed. My whole day is packed with so much technology [computers, T.V, iPod] it just feels so good to slow down a bit and absorb things. Of course there's nothing better than having a cup of cocoa to drink whilst you do your 'absorbing' as I call it.

Then there's the thing about watching it rain. Watching as every single thing glistens with droplets of rain. First of all there's that earthy smell of wet mud which makes my day and then there's just standing there listening to the sound of rain. Rain, basically, tunes all of our senses. All there is to rain is science, but just for a second, it makes you wonder - Is there something much greater, much more powerful than us? How can something so beautiful have such a simple explanation?

Wealth, luxury, property, status....Well, it doesn't really count in the end, does it? Rain is so amazing, it's like Nutella falling from the sky.
Pliny [Roman author/naturalist/philosopher] recorded that the Greeks and Romans used peppermint to flavour sauces and wines. Sprays of peppermint adorned their tables. Peppermint oil and tea is also the cure for toothaches, indigestion and colds and flu.

Candy canes are flavoured by peppermint. The "hook" shape of the candy cane comes from Germany, when a choirmaster bent candy sticks into canes to represent shepherd's hook.

Mocha is simply coffee with chocolate flavouring. They get their name from the Red Sea coastal town of Mocha, Yemen.

When these two delicious ...erm..things [sorry for my unimaginative-ness] are bought together they form something that sounds and tastes wonderful [and a Starbucks mocha]. There's something really comforting about Peppermint Mochas and I think they're the perfect beverage and words to describe my blog. My blog will be full of stuff that comforts me and makes me happy and warm. I know that sounds quite cheesy but whatever, it's my blog and I'm allowed to be cheesy!
